Fishing Report 08-04-11 (Wednesday)

Nice weather again for an offshore trip, at least the first half of the day. Our run from
Port Canaveral before sunrise saw fairly calm sea's, but some dark clouds to the
South-East. As the light of day increased a slim funnel was seen below one of the
clouds extending to the water. This remained a lot onger than most waterspouts,
perhaps as long as ten minutes. It was about 5 miles South-East of us, and apparently
not moving closer. We neared our target, and as soon as we came off plane, our
target spesis for the morning, Amberjack, was sighted, not only on sonar, but visually
below the boat. One jig went down quickly, and immediatly was hit. This lead to a nice
fight, while I started rigging the other rods. It did not take long to limit on these fish,
and we remained to play "Catch and Release", as well as try for a big one. All the fish
caught were keeper sized, but the largest boated for the day was in the 30lb size. A few
larger fish broke off. No Almaco's were seen this trip, as has been the case on previous
trips, but the size of the AJ school has seemed to increase. We likely caught about
15 AJ's total, before we moved in to do a little anchored up bottom fishing at 8A. The AJ's
stayed around, but the bite really slowed down after the first hour. Our live bait did not last
too long, and when they got tired of the jigs, that probably was what they wanted.

8A was its usual self for this time of year. Tons of smaller Sea Bass. My clients had fun
however, especially their young son, who now had fish he could catch without fear of
being pulled in, like with the AJ's! Several Sea Bass and a few Shark were caught before
a fast moving line of heavy showers forced us to move on. We ran toward the coast, then
south to the channel to see if the Cuda would bite. We had a few follow our offering to the
boat, but no takers. My clients were ready to head in for fish cleaning, so to the Port we
went.
