A Good Samaritan out for early morning fishing alerted the Coast Guard about 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, asking for medical assistance.

The man, 40-year-old Lance Branford of Riviera Beach, was spotted near East Inlet Road after someone called to report a suspicious person in the area, according to information distributed by the police department.

Investigators determined Branford was driving a 31-foot boat that had crashed into the jetty, ejecting both Branford and his unidentified female passenger.

The passenger was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center. Branford went to Good Samaritan. Neither were seriously injured.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are now under investigation, Palm Beach police report.
